The keyword golden ratio is a fantastic tool to find low competition keywords
0:05
It can help you get traffic to your new niche site fast, but it's not all rainbows and unicorns
0:11
Here are five things to consider when using the keyword golden ratio
0:15
You might consider them pitfalls. Number one is keyword stuffing. If Google's trying to return relevant results for searchers, you might think that it's a great
0:25
idea to use your keyword phrase all over the place as often as possible
0:29
It turns out that's a very bad idea. Overusing the keyword phrase is called keyword stuffing
0:35
and Google doesn't like you to do that. In fact, Google hates it. We hate keyword stuffing
0:41
KGR compliant terms are usually longer than a normal keyword phrase, often four or more words
0:48
And using long-tail keyword phrases over and over again can be unnatural to the reader
0:54
It looks funny and it seems very, very forced. So, for example, it would be very
0:59
weird if you wrote the phrase, best ballpoint pen for journaling, more than a couple
1:05
times within your blog post. So the tip here is to use the keyword golden ratio phrase once in
1:11
the title and then one more time in the main content. That's it. Don't overdo it. You should make
1:17
your copy sound more natural. So you can sprinkle in other partial match keywords and related phrases
1:25
instead. This might be one of the most important things I tell you about is to ignore
1:29
the keyword density metrics in the Yost SEO plugin. It is nonsense
1:35
You may be thinking, hey, I wanna get the green light, I'm yellow right now, I don't want red
1:41
ignore the Yost SEO plugin. It's terrible for this keyword density exercise
1:46
Basically the Yost SEO plugin is for regular people writing regular content you smarter than that you watching this video and basically the KGR is an advanced technique and Yost just doesn take it into account Number two keywords that don rank
2:04
Sometimes a KGR term just doesn't rank well, even if all the metrics told you that it should work
2:10
So why is that? Google is really good in knowing what the searcher is interested in. It's called
2:15
searcher intent. And before targeting a KGR compliant term, you should Google the term
2:21
and see what results show up. You should look at the sites and see what kind of sites they are
2:27
You'll see what Google is delivering to the searcher for that term
2:32
And that is usually really well aligned with the searcher intent. For example, if Google returns mostly e-commerce sites
2:39
in the results, then the searchers tend to like those results better than, say, affiliate sites
2:45
So you may not want to target a term if all the results are e-commerce and you don't have
2:50
e-commerce site. If you do have an e-commerce site, then maybe it's perfect for you. Another example is
2:56
YouTube videos. So if you see YouTube videos as the majority of the results, that means that searchers
3:02
usually want to see a video versus the written word on a blog post. If the term happens to be
3:08
medical or health related, then you're likely to see big authoritative websites like Mayo Clinic
3:14
WebMD, maybe medical journals, and other sites with a huge amount of trust in the medical
3:20
field. So the tip here is that Google lets you know what types of sites are ranking well in the
3:27
search results. They're right there. So you should always Google the term and see what sites are
3:32
ranking. If you don't see any sites that are similar to yours, that's kind of a bad sign. Even a KGR
3:38
with great metrics is not likely to rank in those scenarios. The third pitfall is just having
3:44
difficulties finding keyword golden ratio compliant keywords So finding great keywords is a skill And it one that you can get better at if you practice So don get discouraged if you not finding KGR terms very easily It could be hard
4:01
at first and using tools like KW finder or Sem Rush can make it much easier, but you still have to
4:07
put in the time for your site to grow and to actually find those keywords. That's part of the beauty
4:12
with a KGR. Competitors can't simply buy a tool that churns out KGR compliant terms
4:17
terms. You have to do this manually. It's a barrier to entry and it makes it a little bit easier for you to have
4:24
that nice little moat, that little defense around your site. The fourth pitfall is only trying one KGR
4:31
compliant post. The KGR method works really well at scale and I suggest that you try at least 20 KGR
4:39
terms on your site to begin with. Historically, about 5% of the KGR terms perform better than expected
4:47
percent are worse than expected and about 80 percent rank somewhere in the top 30 to 50
4:53
results in a short time frame. We're talking 24 to 36 hours, maybe 48. Give it a little bit
5:00
of time. And the 80 percent tend to move higher in the rankings over time. Of course, it depends
5:06
on the quality of the content, your site's overall authority, and the relative competition
5:12
All these things come into play. If you only publish one KGR post, it may or may not
5:17
rank and you may think the entire method is a failure. However, if you publish enough KGR post
5:23
to see some results, usually you'll find the magic in it. Now, quick note, if you need some help
5:30
finding KGR terms, you need to watch the video on the best KGR formats after this one. Number five
5:37
listening to people that never actually try the KGR. I recommend that you try the KGR yourself
5:44
There a lot of people out there let call them like internet trolls and meanies You know we keep a PG here for today The only way to really know if the KGR works is if you try it yourself
5:56
So maybe you shouldn't believe me about the KGR, but you also shouldn't believe the naysayers
6:02
Fire up your keyword research tool and start looking. The cost of trying is very low, so you don't want to miss out because someone said that can't work
6:11
because they have some reason, like maybe keyword search volumes aren't accurate
6:16
so how can you have a formula based on that, right? Kind of makes sense
6:21
If you don't have accurate information, how can you use a formula? But the thing is, it actually works
6:26
It turns out I created the formula in a very aggressive way so that it actually doesn't
6:32
matter what tool you use. It doesn't have to be perfect. It's a very aggressive formula
6:36
So it tends to work out, especially like I said before, If you publish 20 posts based on those keywords
6:43
then you should be in good shape. Actually, let's step away from keyword research for a second
6:48
You probably shouldn't just believe one person that tried something once, or maybe they'd never tried it
6:54
and they're just talking about something that they think about hypothetically. You find a lot of this in, I would say, Reddit
7:01
and perhaps Facebook groups, where there's just a lot of people talking about something
7:06
that are not actually practitioners. And I know it's very confusing. and you may have someone say, hey, KGR won't work because search volumes don't mean anything
7:14
Meanwhile, you have 50 other people telling you that it worked for them and they're making money from it
7:19
So who would you believe? Well, I don't know either, but you have to test it out for yourself
7:24
So go watch the video now on why 250 is in the keyword golden ratio formula
7:31
And by the way, if you haven't downloaded the free KGR calculator spreadsheet, it makes things so much easier
